Approval to submit bid to DfT for Intelligent Traffic Management Fund (ITMF) for up to £2m grant

Decision Maker: Section 73 Officer

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Purpose:

In December 2023 SYMCA Programme Board received a report on funding opportunities which had come from the Governments Plan for Drivers and Network North announcements, this included ITMF.

ITMF is intended to support the introduction of next generation traffic management technologies for corridor and area-wide optimisation to a small number of English authorities. It is more research and development focused than the other Plan for Drivers funds and is aimed at showcasing and promoting a wide range of new and emerging solutions to area-wide traffic management.

In April 2024 programme guidance was launched by DfT, with a submission deadline of July 31st. This date is being revised due to the General Election.

The bid is in the final stages of development with the consortia partners, which will quantify the value of our submission which is expected to be close to the £2m ceiling.

Approval is sought to submit the bid once the new date has been confirmed. An update will then be provided in the MCA paper noting submission of bid and acceptance of any future grant.

Decision:

Option 1 – Approve the recommendations

Alternative options considered:

1. Approve the recommendations to submit a bid
2. Reject recommendation
