Purpose:

At Sheffield, Meadowhall, Rotherham, Barnsley and Arundel Gate interchanges SYMCA staff communicate between handheld radios and a desk-based mobile radio located at a control desk. Communications between interchange sites via these systems are currently not possible. The existing system has significant shortcomings and is approaching the end of its effective service life.

To improve radio communications at and between Interchanges, quotes have been sought for a PMR system upgrade.

Radiocoms Systems Limited have been appointed to undertake a PMR system upgrade. Following their appointment, the need for various additional works became apparent, including installation of new aerials and other equipment and renewal of licences.

Decision:

Approval is sought for a total cost of £56,500 to cover additional costs (a Record of Officer Decision Form has previously been signed for £54,861.60).

Alternative options considered:

Do Nothing – under this option the radio system would not operate at full functionality, so this option is not considered viable.
